While aerial imaging is our specialty, our passion is creating visual content that helps our clients communicate, document, and inspire—from the ground to the sky.

AAIC is a dedicated small business specializing in aerial and ground cinematic and photographic production, serving diverse clients such as construction companies, engineering firms, heritage areas, museums, documentary filmmakers and more.

With over forty years of combined experience, we provide comprehensive services—from raw footage to final edited products—using high-quality equipment and a passion for our craft.

Every project receives direct, hands-on attention from start to finish. From planning and aviation to photography, video, editing, and final delivery, we bring decades of technical and creative experience to the work—without layers of people between you and the person actually doing the job.

THE DRONE IS  OUR TOOL. EXPERIENCE IS OUR ADVANTAGE.

For more than 25 years, AAIC founder Michael Tranchitella has been involved in the design, development, testing, and operation of unmanned aircraft systems. Long before consumer drones transformed aerial photography, he was applying UAV technology to engineering, scientific research, government programs, and commercial applications.

Today, that same foundation shapes every project we undertake—combining aviation expertise, engineering precision, and visual storytelling to create imagery with purpose.

We were flying unmanned aircraft long before they were called drones

These photographs capture some of the unmanned aircraft projects and flight operations that shaped the experience behind AAIC. While today's technology has changed dramatically, the principles of aviation, mission planning, safety, and precision remain the same.

Michael Tranchitella has been a key figure in the world of unmanned aircraft systems (drones) for over twenty-five years. Combining his skills as both an engineer and pilot, Michael’s work has taken him across the globe. He has collaborated with high-profile organizations such as NASA, NATO, and the USDA, flying drones for a variety of missions (see more). From an early age, Michael had a passion for photography, which perfectly complements his drone flying expertise. He describes his role at AAIC as “the perfect job,” where he merges his love of aviation and visual storytelling to help clients bring their visions to life. Previous work experience includes eight years working in technical information and procurement with Marriott at their headquarters. Here he learned how to operate within the corporate environment and how to provide exceptional customer service. Following this, he obtained his Audio Engineering Certificate and worked at DC's biggest studio, Omega Recording in Rockville. Beyond drones and photography, Michael enjoys cooking Indian curries, playing guitar and bass, driving his Mini Cooper "Wensleydale" and spending time with family.

Leona Tranchitella has been an artist all her life, blending creativity and skill in various fields. She earned her Associate’s degree in Visual Communications from the Maryland College of Art and Design (MCAD) and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). At AAIC, Leona specializes in photography, editing, graphic design, and is known for keeping Michael out of trouble. Beyond her professional work, she crafts a unique line of handmade jewelry, showcasing her artistic versatility. Leona is also a talented musician, playing piano, guitar, and bass. When not immersed in art or music, she enjoys preparing delicious, healthy meals focused on Non-GMO, gluten-free, and organic ingredients. Her diverse talents and passion for creativity make Leona a dynamic and inspiring artist.
